Bryan Ratzburg, John Goggins, and Ernie Ratzburg met in August 1985, as freshmen on the Montana State University Bobcats football team. A strong and lasting friendship was established immediately and the decision was made to develop a registered Angus operation on the Ratzburg's ranch. What to call this Angus operation was a very easy decision, since all three of us played for the Bobcats, BOBCAT ANGUS was a natural fit!
We all grew up in ranching and farming families and between us have nine young kids who will be the fourth generation of ranching families. We are certainly proud of our cattle, but even more proud of our families.
In November 2005, we had our Inaugural Production Sale at the stockyards in Great Falls, MT. Prior to hosting a production sale, we merchandised quite a number of bulls through the Treasure Test Center. Our bulls were consistently at the top of this sale as we had the Reserve Champion Jackpot bull for four years in a row, and also had the High Average Daily Gain Sire Group in 2004 and 2005.
Three years ago, the decision was made to move the vast majority of our registered herd into a fall calving program and to hold an Annual Production sale each fall. The decision has proven to be a wise one for us. By calving the registered cows in the fall, it has allowed us to give more attention to this set of cows. We don't have an over abundance of hired help and calving the registered cows in the fall has really taken the pressure off of us during spring calving season.
Here at Bobcat Angus, we are young, energetic, and full of enthusiasm about the Angus business. We stand behind our cattle 100% and encourage all of you to take a close look at our program.
